As artists, we make art and then what? We write an artist biography, make m ore art and then write an artist statement as well as create a resume. Then what? We improve upon what we've already created. Your artwork progresses and so why not your artist statement, artist biography and resume? I'm a firm believer in forging ahead by improving upon what we already have under our belt. Once these marketing materials are created it's easy to add to them. I suggest taking a look at them at least quarterly and definitely prior to each of your exhibits to be sure that they can't be "upgraded".
Regardless of where you are in your art business, you'll see yourself moving forward if you are consistent in revisiting your marketing materials. This helps keep you on track. If you find yourself having nothing to tweak it's a sure sign that you've been idle too long You need to get our there and find shows to exhibit in, places to demonstrate your art, workshops to teach, and galleries to represent you. If you can tweak your materials more often than not, it shows that you are an active artist and have value.
