Artists think about art around the clock. They make art as often as they can but the artists that make a name for themselves and make a living as an artist do more than think and make art. The successful artist understands how business works in the art world, has a strong work ethic, hangs out with positive people, and they are resilient. Get on the track to success today by doing the following:
1. Place studio time on your calendar. Don't let anything but an emergency interrupt this time. Successful artists know that it is important to be present and working in the studio. After all, it is their business.
2. Embrace business aspects within your art world. It is smart of you to ask for help if, for example, you do not understand how accounting works or how to get a business license. Know how a successful art business works and if you need it, get help. It's perfectly normal to hire out certain aspects of work that need to be accomplished. Such as hiring an: accountant, lawyer, photographer, web designer, etc.
3. Begin managing your creative time. It is very important, in order for an artist to be successful, to know when to create art and when to manage business. Carve out times for both. Perhaps you create marketing materials for an hour in the morning while having your cup(s) of coffee followed by two hours of creating art.
4. Spend your social time with positive people. Life is short and should not be wasted on people who do not support your choice to be an artist. Doing so will only create obstacles. You will produce more quality art when you surround yourself with people who are supportive of you and what you create.
Successful artists will all agree that it's great being an artist. This is because they have figured out how to manage their time, know when to ask for help, surround themselves with positive people, and carve out time to create art and move their business forward. It's never too late to become a success. Start today!
