Creative Memory Exercise

By Carol Fennell, Professional Artist
Do you recall your first memory? Perhaps it was a special moment or event from your childhood. What is your first memory of food or water? When you saw the color blue? Where you met your best friend?
When we think about these types of questions, they unleash a lot of thoughts and memories of sights, sounds, colors, and imagery. Memory can play a key role in your creativity. The memories we keep are likely as sharp and vivid as any painting and they are only yours.
Pick a memory that stands out to you and create something personal and it (a painting, a song, a skit). Do not worry about it becoming a finished product, but let your memories guide you. This exercise can be freeing and, if you share your creative project, will allow others to get to know you more deeply.
